Bozeman Stingers Host McCall in Home Opener this Weekend

The Bozeman Stingers are back for another season and have their home opener this weekend.

The Stingers will host the McCall Mountaineers this Friday and Saturday at the Haynes Pavilion in Bozeman. Both games this weekend will face off at 7:30, and admission is $10 for adults and $5 for kids.

“Fans can expect a fun night at Haynes Pavilion with two games going on (Montana State hosts Williston State), so there should be a lively atmosphere with exciting hockey on both sheets of ice,” said Kyle Tolliver, a player and spokesperson with the team. “New Stingers clothing merchandise will be available along with beer, wine, ciders, and snacks in the warming room.”

The Stingers will enter the game after coming off a massive win against the Jackson Hole Moose in December. The Stinger’s last win against the Moose was back in 2014. Bozeman is 1-3 on the season and is looking to reach .500 in this weekend’s series. Last season, Bozeman had split the series with McCall at 1-1.

Bozeman plays Senior A hockey in the Black Diamond Hockey League (BDHL). The league comprises teams based primarily on Mountain-west region ski towns. The Stingers, Sun Valley, Idaho, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Park City, Utah, and other ski towns in the mountain-west region all play in the BDHL. The Stingers will play 12 games with six home games this season. All their upcoming games are at home.

This season’s roster features former Junior A players from around Montana, along with several former Montana State University (MSU) players and other players from college and hockey programs from around the nation. The team is led by captain and president Luke Bing, an alum of MSU and its hockey program.

Ryan Padden is also a former MSU player who is now playing for the Stingers. “When I played for Montana State, we always played the Stingers at the beginning of the year, and they were always rough, hard games that brought in a great crowd. Now we have some Cats alum on the team and are all rooting for them, and the year they [MSU] are having. Both teams are coming into their own at the right time of year,” said Padden.

This season, the Stinger’s roster features five new players.
